Mother

Acrylic, size 24x36, 2023

I told my mom I wanted to paint her portrait as a gift for her 85th birthday. She’s always been a big fan of my work, and I thought it would make her happy. But instead, she looked sad.

"I am an old woman now," she said, "and I don’t want to be remembered that way."

Then, after a moment of thought, she looked up at me with a wistful smile.

"Please—paint me young. Paint me as I was at eighteen."

She disappeared into her room and returned holding her faded high school photo, her eyes filled with the memories of the girl she still felt she was.

And so I painted her viewing her young self, pictured here.

Commission a Custom Portrait

I create portraits for people and families, capturing the unique personalities. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted with care, and the process typically takes between 2 and 6 months, depending on the project's complexity.

The Commission Process

  1. Initial Consultation – We’ll meet in person or via Zoom to discuss your vision, preferences, timeline, and budget, as well as whether you prefer the portrait to be created from existing photographs, in-person sittings and sketches, or a combination of both.

Project Details – We will go over the theme of the painting, including the overall tone, composition, attire, and the intended display location for the portrait.

I’d love to create a portrait that tells your story. Contact me to get started!
